Some parents in BC are keeping their kids home over Canada Day this year after tension related to HST has sparked huge protest rallies throughout the country. Also, it has been warned not to wear red and white maple leaf flags on July 1, as these are colors adopted by protesters. "If you wear a maple leaf flag, you could get shot as a protester," said detective sergeant Ken Flatters. Many people are toning down their festivities, as not to be confused with the protesters. Many protesters are warning things will get uglier than the recent G8/G20 summit in Toronto. On the evening of July 1, avoid any fireworks, since police are targeting protesters who are using fireworks. Best to stay inside your home, and put a paper bag on your head.
