You rightly say that the European countries should ditch the Euro. At one point people advocated we should join the Euro Zone, but the main problem was the economies of southern Europe would drag down the economies of the north. I still remember White Wednesday more commonly called Black Wednesday here in the UK in 1992 when the UK left the ill fated Exchange Rate Mechanism. A year or so later the entire ERM collapsed catastrophically. The writing was on the wall even then, but only the UK was listening.
